A Quiz To Do: Answers

St. Anthony the GreatBelow are the answers to our quiz concerning the Gospel of St. John, Chapter 4.

But, before you look, did you read this chapter of the Bible to find the answers?

text for this quiz is taken from the Revised Standard Version of the Bible. Your Bible may be a different version and so the wording may be a little different.


1. Where was Jesus going to when He had to pass through Samar'ia?
To Galilee.

2. At which city of Samar'ia did Jesus stop to rest?
A city of Samar'ia, called Sy'char.

3. What was the name of the well beside which Jesus sat down to rest?
Jacob's well.

4. What did Jesus say to the woman of Samar'ia who came to the well to draw water?
Jesus said to her, "Give me a drink."

5. Where had Jesus' disciples gone?
His disciples had gone away into the city to buy food.

6. Why was the woman surprised that Jesus, a Jew, asked her, a woman of Samar'ia, for a drink?
For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.

7. What did Jesus say He would give the woman when He said to her, "If you knew the gift of God, and Who it is that is saying to you, `Give Me a drink,' you would have asked Him"?
"He would have given you living water."

8. In verses 11 and 12, what did the woman say to Jesus about drawing water from the well?
"Sir, You have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep; where do You get that living water? Are You greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank from it himself, and his sons, and his cattle?"

9. And how, in verses 13 and 14, did Jesus answer the woman's question concerning the water?
Jesus said to her, "Every one who drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst; the water that I shall give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life."

The woman said to Him, "Sir, give me this water, that I may not thirst, nor come here to draw."

11. And what did Jesus ask the woman to do?
Jesus said to her, "Go, call your husband, and come here."

13. In verse 19, what did the woman perceive Jesus to be?
The woman said to him,
"Sir, I perceive that you are a prophet."

14. How did Jesus say the true worshippers would worship the Father when He said, "But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father..."
"In spirit and truth, for such the Father seeks to worship Him. God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth."

15. What did the woman say to Jesus concerning the Messiah?
The woman said to Him,
"I know that Messiah is coming (He Who is called Christ); when He comes, He will show us all things."

16. And, in verse 26, what did Jesus say to the woman concerning Himself?
Jesus said to her,
"I who speak to you am He."

17. In verse 29, what did the woman say to the people of the city concerning Jesus?
"Come, see a man who told me all that I ever did. Can this be the Christ?"

18. What did Jesus say to His disciples when they asked Him to eat?
He said to them,
"I have food to eat of which you do not know."

He stayed there two days.

20. In verse 42, what did the people of the city say to the woman concerning Jesus?
They said to the woman,
"It is no longer because of your words that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this is indeed the Savior of the world."
